The coat, and why it sheds this way

The Husky double coat is built for serious cold: a dense, crimped undercoat under a straight, weatherproof outer coat. Twice a year, usually late winter and again in early summer, the entire undercoat releases over two to four weeks and comes out in tufts you can pull free by hand. Between blows, shedding is surprisingly moderate for such a furry dog.

The routine that works

Peak weeks: During a blow, brush every day for about two weeks. You are not tidying the coat, you are pulling out an undercoat that is already dead and would otherwise mat against the skin.The rest of the year: Outside those windows, twice a week keeps the loose hair off your furniture.
